Top sea swims in Dublin

Top Sea Swims in Dublin

Outlined below you can find some of the best sea swimming spots in Dublin. All are easily reachable both by car and public transport.

1. Vico Baths

The Vico baths are located just outside Dalkey in south Dublin. This swimming spot has steps to ease your way in or a small diving platform if you want to make a splash (just watch out for rocks and avoid jumping in at low-tide). To access Vico baths, you can park at this location.

From here it’s about a 10 minute walk down to the baths. On your walk you can take in some of the amazing scenery with stunning views looking out over Kiliney bay. You will also pass by the iconic Eire sign about half way to the baths. This dates back to World War 2 and was used to help identify Ireland for German bombers.

You can read more on the history of this iconic sign here:

2. The Forty Foot

Possibly the most famous swimming spot in Dublin, the forty foot has remained a popular spot for many years. Originally a Male-only bathing spot, it attracts everyone of all genders and ages now. You can still see remnants of its past with some of the signage at the forty foot. There is also a stairway into it and plenty of nearby street parking.

3. Seapoint

This location is probably the closest to the city centre for a swim. Located just outside Dun Laoghaire, you can enjoy a relaxing swim here with the picturesque Dublin Bay backdrop. If you are not a strong swimmer this is the spot for you as it is quite shallow in most parts. It is advised to go here during high tide however as there can be a lot of seaweed otherwise.

4. Clontarf baths

While this is not technically a sea swimming spot, it is a tidal sea water pool located right next to the sea. If you want get some lengths in while also being immersed in refreshing sea water, this is the spot for you. Please note, this may require pre-booking.
